When vitamin D is low we tend to get sick a lot because it helps with the development of cell growth. It is a hormone that helps the cell to divide correctly, without it cells can divide abnormally. Abnormal cell growth and development can cause and increase your risk for certain types of cancers. Vitamin D also has some connection to blood sugar. It produces insulin sensitivity and insulin is the hormone that moves out of the blood stream and into muscles and modulates blood sugar. If it is deficient and not working properly it can cause weight gain. Finally, in women calcium and vitamin D can aid as a natural way to alleviate premenstrual syndrome symptoms.

Checking your vitamin D level can be as simple as taking a blood test. Besides not being a fun in the sun type of person there are few ways for you to decrease your vitamin D levels. Wearing clothes all over will definitely block vitamin D, as sunlight’s ultraviolet rays cannot pass through garments. Window glass and sunblock with a protection factor above eight can actually block the natural process by the sun, and the darker your skin is the more it needs to be exposed to the sun to produce more vitamin D.
